Novo is home to numerous languages, the majority of which belong to a language family. Given that the majority of the worlds continents have been peopled many tens of thousands of years ago, there is an incredible variety of linguistic diversity across the world's landmasses.

D'ekaš

With regards to D'ekaš, any great language spread a la Indo-European has long since broken into novel families. The genesis of statehood and the agricultural revolution (revolutionary in making lives miserable that is) was far more delayed on all corners of Novo then on Earth. The result of this is that many language families had emerged by the emergence of statehood.

Despite this, the emergence of the first states, and thus the first empires, dramatically reduced the numbers of languages and their families, particularly in the western to southern continuum of D'ekaš. Ultimately, the number of language families dropped from 36 to 25. The majority of these losses occurred in the tropical zone, where isolation created large linguistic diversity.
